Mag. Gerd Pölzl studierte Romanistik und Geschichte an der Universität Wien und ist Übersetzer und Sprachlehrer.
Er begann mit 8 Jahren, Klavier zu lernen, mit 11 Orgel. Er studierte Kirchenmusik am Diözesankonservatorium in Wien, das er mit sehr gutem Erfolg absolvierte. Seitdem spielt er Orgel an zahlreichen Kirchen in Wien.
Im Jahre 2007 lernte er Duncan Lorien kennen und übersetzt seitdem seine Musik-Verstehen-Seminare in Wien. Seit einigen Jahren unterrichtet er auch Klavier nach der Methode von Duncan Lorien und organisiert ebenso Klavierübungsabende und Musik-Workshops für Kinder.
Im Jahre 2012 übernahm er die Veranstaltung der Musik-Verstehen-Seminare mit Duncan Lorien in Wien, die sich steigenden Interesses erfreuen.
"Als ich 5 Jahre alt wurde, entschied meine Mutter, mir und den Nachbarskindern, das Flötespielen beizubringen. 2 Jahre später entdeckte ich bei meiner Oma im Schlafzimmer einen Stützflügel. Omas Freundin aus Japan schenkte mir ein Notenheft fürs Klavier, das ich im Alter von 8 Jahren im Selbststudium durcharbeitete. Als dann einmal unser Dorforganist ins Haus kam, meinte er, ich bräuchte jetzt richtigen Klavierunterricht. Und so ging’s los, zum Leidwesen meiner Schwester, die immer flüchtete, wenn ich spielte.
Nachdem ich die ersten Clementi-Sonatinen heruntergeklopft hatte, begann ich auf der Orgel halb im Stehen die Pedale zu traktieren, denn meine Beine hatten noch nicht die notwendige Länge erreicht, um sie im Sitzen zu bedienen.
Nach 2 Jahren schaffte ich es immerhin bis zu einer recht tauglichen Performance der Toccata in D-Moll von J.S. Bach. Dies war ganz sicher eines der Stücke, das mich motiviert hat, dieses Instrument zu erlernen. Ich spielte Orgel bei Messen und bald schon mein erstes Orgelkonzert. Zunächst lernte ich bei Prof. Rudolf Jungwirth an der Musikschule in Linz Orgel und in weiterer Folge besuchte ich das Diözesankonservatorium für Kirchenmusik der Erzdiözese Wien, studierte bei Prof. Walter Sengstschmid Orgel und schloss meine Organisten-B-Prüfung mit ausgezeichnetem Erfolg ab.
Dann verschlug mich das Leben nach Dänemark. Nach einigen Jahren jedoch sehnte ich mich wieder nach meiner Heimat. Wieder nach Wien zurückgekehrt, lernte ich über einen Freund Duncan Lorien und sein Musik-Verstehen-Seminar kennen. Im Jahre 2007 wurde ich zum ersten Mal engagiert, dieses Seminar zu dolmetschen. Ich war schnell begeistert, konnte oft gar nicht glauben, was ich da übersetzte! Selbst habe ich Jahre gebraucht, um zu lernen, was hier an einem einzigen Wochenende gelernt wurde.
Am Ende des ersten von mir übersetzten Seminars spielte eine totale Anfängerin nach bloß 2 ½ Tagen ein kleines Stück von J. S. Bach. Es war noch nicht in der richtigen Geschwindigkeit, aber jeder Ton stimmte, und ihre Sicherheit war verblüffend.
Als ich dann das erste Songwriting-Seminar mit Duncan Lorien übersetzte, begann ich selber zu komponieren. Ich glaube, das war eine meiner glücklichsten und künstlerisch produktivsten Zeiten meines Lebens. Jedes Mal, wenn ich Menschen im Klavierunterricht zeige, wie schnell sie etwas spielen können, und ich dieses bestimmte Strahlen in den Augen sehe, weiß ich: Genau so geht’s!
Ich durfte dann mehrere Jahre der Übersetzer Duncans in Österreich sein. Seit 2013 habe ich die Veranstaltung seiner Seminare in Wien vom Klavierhaus Reisinger übernommen.
Meine Lebensgefährtin sagt immer, während andere Briefmarken sammeln, sammle ich Orgelnoten und Sprachen. Und ich kann nicht leugnen, dass sowohl die Orgelnoten als auch Sprachen eine große Faszination auf mich ausüben. Seit 2007 unterrichte ich Deutsch als Fremdsprache und meine Ambition ist es immer gewesen, was ich den Teilnehmern beibringe, auch in deren Sprache zu können. So lernte ich auch Türkisch und Rumänisch. Leider haben mich meine Teilnehmer oft in den Kenntnissen der Fremdsprache überholt: sie können nun besser Deutsch als ich Türkisch oder Rumänisch.
Meine Lebensgefährtin ist meine rechte Hand beim Organisieren der Seminare. Sie hat ein wunderbares Organisationstalent, bewegt sich gut vor Publikum und ist die beste Seminarassistentin, die man sich nur wünschen kann."
